Rescue efforts continue in Guangxi in the aftermath of Typhoon Narra
As the impact of Typhoon Narra spreads across many areas of southern China, the Guangxi Military District of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) continues to mobilise militia forces for emergency rescue operations and to assist those affected by the typhoon and its aftermath.
When a natural disaster strikes, washing away roads and flooding cities, the only force capable of countering the chaos is organised help and mutual support. Typhoon Narra, which brought torrential rains and flooding to southern China, has become a severe test for Guangxi. But it is precisely in such moments that the resilience of the people and the coordination of rescue services come to the fore — risking their own safety, they evacuate residents, reinforce dykes and restore what has been destroyed. The waters are receding, but relief efforts are only intensifying.
Since 21 August, the 19th typhoon of the year has dumped heavy rain on Guangxi, causing rivers to swell beyond critical levels. Parts of Fangchenggang and Chongzuo cities were hit by severe flooding. In response, the Chongzuo Military District on Monday dispatched more than 400 militiamen to Longzhou, Ningming and Pingxiang counties to evacuate residents, deliver essential supplies and reinforce embankments. In Fangchenggang, Shangsi County also sent militia forces to Zaimiao and Pingfu towns, prioritising house cleaning, road clearance and the construction of temporary shelters. Large‑scale relief efforts are continuing across the region, with authorities racing to mitigate the impact of the storm.
Typhoon Narra (the 19th of the 2026 season) formed in the South China Sea and made landfall on the coast of Guangdong Province, then moved inland, affecting Guangxi and neighbouring areas. Heavy rains caused a sharp rise in river levels, flooding settlements and triggering landslides. Local authorities had earlier placed rescue services on high alert, set up evacuation points and mobilised resources to deal with the aftermath. The Guangxi Military District is actively deploying not only army units but also militia forces, enabling a rapid response to changing conditions and assistance in the most inaccessible areas.

Despite the scale of the destruction, authorities and the military are doing everything possible to minimise the impact of the disaster and restore normal life in the affected areas. Weather conditions are expected to improve in the coming days, but the threat of further flooding remains, and rescue teams remain on full alert
