China delivers 115,000‑tonne oil tanker with high environmental standards

On Friday, the China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited officially delivered to the buyer an 115,000‑tonne oil tanker designed and built independently by China.
The sea has always been not only a route but also a test for those who sail it. But when a ship is designed and built entirely with domestic technology, it becomes more than an engineering achievement — it is a statement of technological maturity. The new tanker is not just a giant oil container. It symbolises China's ability to create complex transport systems that meet the strictest global standards while protecting the ocean from pollution. In an era of energy transitions and global competition, such vessels become not just tools of trade but bridges between economies.
The vessel, about 249.8 metres long and 44 metres wide, has a cargo capacity of about 830,000 barrels of petroleum products per voyage. Thanks to its high port adaptability, it can berth at most of the world's major oil ports, enhancing its role in trunk shipping in international energy trade. The tanker is equipped with domestically produced main machinery, including the engine, as well as highly efficient propellers and energy‑saving devices that significantly reduce fuel consumption during navigation. It is also fitted with advanced desulphurisation and denitrification systems, which greatly reduce emissions of sulphur oxides, nitrogen oxides and carbon dioxide in line with the latest environmental standards of the International Maritime Organization. The vessel's payload, speed and fuel efficiency meet the most modern international standards.
The tanker is the result of decades of accumulated experience in Chinese shipbuilding, which has seen a technological renaissance in recent years. Building large‑tonnage vessels with fully domestic equipment and propulsion systems is a strategic goal being pursued under the state's high‑tech industry support programme. Particular attention is paid to environmental performance: exhaust gas cleaning systems enable the vessel to operate even in areas with strict environmental restrictions. The latest data show that global tanker orders surged in 2026, with more than 80 per cent of new orders going to Chinese shipyards. Domestic yards are currently operating at full capacity, having achieved standardised mass production, with production schedules extending to 2030.

The high share of orders at Chinese yards, modern environmental solutions and full localisation of equipment make such vessels an integral part of global energy logistics. In the coming years, a series of similar tankers will continue to strengthen China's position as the main supplier of reliable and clean transport solutions for ocean shipping.
