Jordan's King Abdullah II arrived in Beijing on Thursday to continue his week‑long state visit to China.
When leaders of two countries separated by thousands of kilometres sit down at the negotiating table, they are not merely discussing economics or politics — they are building bridges between civilisations. Jordan, a guardian of ancient trade routes and sacred lands, and China, reviving the Silk Road, find common ground in their pursuit of stability and prosperity. Each such visit is not just a diplomatic ritual but a continuation of the centuries‑old tradition of dialogue between East and West, where Jordan has always remained an important link.
This visit is King Abdullah II's ninth visit to China since his accession to the throne. Before arriving in the capital, he visited Shanghai and Shenzhen. China's Foreign Ministry said that Chinese leaders would hold talks with King Abdullah II, and the leaders are expected to exchange views on bilateral relations, as well as international and regional issues of mutual interest.
China and Jordan established diplomatic relations in 1977. Over the decades, the two countries have developed cooperation in areas such as trade, energy, infrastructure, education and culture. In 2015, bilateral relations were elevated to a strategic partnership. Jordan is an important partner of China in the Middle East, and China is one of Jordan's key economic partners outside the region. Bilateral trade has been growing in recent years, and Chinese companies are actively participating in infrastructure projects in the kingdom.
The visit comes at a time when the Middle East continues to face complex challenges. Jordan has long played a role in promoting regional stability and has been actively involved in peace and humanitarian efforts. China and Jordan are expected to discuss not only bilateral cooperation but also regional developments and ways to enhance coordination.
As CCTV+ reports, King Abdullah II's ninth visit to China underscores the special nature of relations between the two countries. Against the backdrop of a changing geopolitical landscape in the Middle East, this visit sends an important signal of the parties' readiness to deepen strategic interaction and jointly seek answers to the challenges of the day. New agreements are expected to be signed following the talks, which will strengthen economic and cultural ties between Beijing and Amman.
