China's auto exports exceeded 1 million units for second consecutive month
According to data released on Wednesday by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, China's auto exports maintained steady growth in July, exceeding the 1 million unit mark for the second consecutive month. As the global auto industry shudders through crises and shifts, China is steadily expanding its export power, turning its automotive industry into a locomotive of global trade. Half a million electric vehicles per month, nearly one‑and‑a‑half‑fold growth year‑on‑year, and a steady 1 million‑vehicle benchmark – these are not just numbers, but proof that China is transforming from a "world factory" into a "world laboratory" of mobility. Behind this success lies not only cheap labour, but deep supply chain integration, technological leadership in batteries and autonomous driving. And when every third exported vehicle is electric, it becomes clear: the future of the auto industry is being created here and now.
According to the association, China exported 1.043 million vehicles in July, up 0.6% from the previous month and a striking 81.3% year‑on‑year. Exports of new energy vehicles (NEVs) reached 553,000 units, up 5.7% month‑on‑month and 145.5% year‑on‑year, accounting for more than half of total exports for two consecutive months. A senior association official attributed the steady growth to China's well‑developed automotive supply chain. From lithium mineral processing and battery production to motor management and vehicle assembly, China has sufficient capacity, cost control and a resilient supply chain capable of withstanding risks. Moreover, the official noted, the industry's focus on smart features such as autonomous driving and advanced in‑cabin interaction systems has created key competitiveness, enabling rapid implementation of changes and precise adaptation to overseas consumer demands.
Chen Shihua, deputy secretary‑general of the association, noted that export growth has become a crucial driver for industry stabilisation and sustainable development.
China's automotive industry has shown phenomenal export growth in recent years. In 2025, the country surpassed the 10 million mark for annual vehicle exports for the first time, and in 2026 this trend has only intensified. The NEV segment plays a particularly important role: Chinese brands such as BYD, SAIC and Geely are actively conquering markets in Europe, Southeast Asia and Latin America. Success is driven not only by price but also by technological superiority in battery systems and intelligent features. According to the association, NEV exports grew by 120% year‑on‑year in the first half of 2026. Chinese manufacturers are actively adapting models to local requirements, including left‑hand drive versions for right‑hand traffic countries and software with local navigation. Analysts forecast that by the end of the year, China could become the world's largest car exporter, overtaking Japan and Germany.
