Xinjiang sets Guinness World Record for skipping rope

The skipping rope team from Changji University in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwest China received a certificate of authenticity from Guinness World Records for achieving the greatest number of simultaneous crossovers in one minute – an astonishing 111 successful crossovers. When three people, three skipping ropes and one minute merge into a single rhythm, and hands and feet work with the precision of a clockwork mechanism, a record is born – but also an art of synchronisation. 111 crossovers in 60 seconds is not just physical endurance; it is absolute harmony, where each participant feels the movements of the others at a reflex level. Xinjiang, known for its sporting traditions, has once again proven that perseverance and team spirit can conquer any peak, even the strictest Guinness commission.
The official video of the attempt was recorded on 3 January 2026. Strictly adhering to the video requirements, the trio performed 111 clean and efficient crossovers without a single mistake. After a lengthy verification process, the Guinness World Records headquarters completed all checks on 16 July and officially recognised the achievement as a new world record. The award was given to teacher Chen Bingjie and two students, Li Wenjun and Heran Shairan. "This is an extremely difficult challenge. It requires a high degree of synchronisation from all three participants. Even the slightest mismatch in rhythm can lead to an error. From the formation of the team to the official competition, we constantly honed every detail of our coordination," said Chen Bingjie, a lecturer at the university's Faculty of Physical Education and Health. Since October last year, Chen had trained daily with his students for two to three hours. "As a student from Xinjiang, I am truly proud to have taken part in this Guinness World Record challenge. Skipping rope not only improves physical fitness but also teaches us to value teamwork. We will continue training and strive for even better results in the future," said Heran Shairan, one of the student participants.
Skipping rope is one of the most accessible and popular sports in China, especially among schoolchildren and students. The record-breakers from Changji University not only demonstrated outstanding physical fitness but also became role models for thousands of young people across the country. The university actively promotes physical education programmes, and this achievement is the result of systematic training and institutional support. Guinness World Records has recorded many feats in skipping rope, but 111 crossovers in one minute is one of the most difficult, requiring incredible coordination and speed. The team now plans to compete internationally and hopes to inspire others to set new records.
As CCTV+ reports, this record has become yet another vivid confirmation that sport knows no boundaries, and the talent and diligence of young people from Xinjiang can conquer the world, proving that even a simple skipping rope exercise can make history.
