Economic development requires not only resilience in the face of challenges but also the ability to turn change into new opportunities. At times like these, strategic decisions lay the foundation for sustainable growth and shape a country's future.

The Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) held a meeting in Beijing to review the country's current economic performance and outline priorities for the second half of 2026. The meeting was chaired by Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee. It was also decided that the Fifth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee will be held in Beijing this October.

Participants noted that since the beginning of the year, China's economy has continued to generate new growth drivers while its economic structure has further improved. For the second half of the year, the country will continue pursuing progress while maintaining stability. Priorities include accelerating the transition to new growth drivers, implementing a more proactive fiscal policy alongside an appropriately accommodative monetary policy, expanding domestic demand, improving public well-being, advancing infrastructure development, and strengthening support for basic research and artificial intelligence initiatives.

The meeting also emphasized the importance of fostering fair market competition, developing a unified national market, supporting the private sector, expanding international economic and trade cooperation, attracting foreign investment, promoting rural revitalization, strengthening social protection, stabilizing the real estate market, and reducing financial risks.

China's 15th Five-Year Plan covers the period from 2026 to 2030 and marks the next stage of the country's modernization strategy. Meetings of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee traditionally set the direction of China's macroeconomic policy and provide guidance for the work of government institutions nationwide.

As reported by CCTV+, the decisions adopted at the meeting are expected to support stable, high-quality economic growth and lay a solid foundation for implementing the objectives of the new Five-Year Plan.
