The Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan Addressed the Asian Women's Forum in Bukhara
From May 13 to 14, a delegation from Turkmenistan, led by Chairperson of the Mejlis, Dunyagozel Gulmanova, conducted a working visit to the Republic of Uzbekistan. The two-day visit covered key issues of regional cooperation, promoting gender equality and scientific-technological collaboration.
On the first day of the visit, the Turkmen delegation participated in a forum of women scientists, "Women's Leadership in Science: Contemporary Problems, Innovative Solutions, and Scientific Cooperation," which was held as part of the Dialogue of Women Leaders of the Region and Azerbaijan.
The Chairperson of the National Parliament presented the participants with a detailed overview of the comprehensive state support for women's scientific research in Turkmenistan. Particular emphasis was placed on programs to improve digital literacy, develop women's initiatives in biotechnology, ecology, and innovative technologies, and systematically improve the national legislative framework in these areas.
On the sidelines of the forum, Dunyagozel Gulmanova met with Tanzila Narbaeva, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The heads of parliament noted that the centuries-old ties of good-neighborliness and strategic partnership between the two fraternal states are now effectively complemented by parliamentary diplomacy mechanisms.
During the talks, the parties discussed in detail the prospects for transport, transit, and cross-border cooperation; enhancing the role of women in the digital technology sector; exchanging experiences in legislative drafting and harmonizing legal norms.
On May 14, the Speaker of the Majlis participated in the second Asian Women's Forum, "Investing in Women – the Foundation for Sustainable Growth: Expanding Women's Political, Economic, Social, and Environmental Opportunities."
In her speech, Dunyagozel Gulmanova emphasized that ensuring gender equality and strengthening the role of women in public administration is a priority of Turkmenistan's state policy. The Speaker of Parliament emphasized an important international focus, recalling Turkmenistan's initiative at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly to declare 2028 the International Year of International Law. This initiative is intended to become an important foundation for strengthening both the global legal architecture and gender equality standards at the global level.
The Speaker of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan invited her foreign colleagues and the head of the Senate of Uzbekistan to attend upcoming large-scale forums to be held in the Avaza National Tourist Zone.
As part of the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and Azerbaijan, as well as Turkmenistan's chairmanship of the CIS, the International Women's Dialogue, a representative conference on demography, and a meeting of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth will be held on the Caspian coast.
