The Winners of the Ashgabat Stage of the Grand Prix Chess Competition Have Been Announced
The Ashgabat stage of the Grand Prix chess competition concluded in the capital of Turkmenistan. It brought together over 270 players at a specialized chess and checkers school from May 4th to 8th. The tournament was held under the Swiss system and sponsored by the National Chess Federation.
The key event of the competition was the undisputed success of Ashgabat chess player Annamuhammed Khommadov, who posted a 100%-win percentage—9 wins out of 9 games—in the open category.
Aya Bayramova from Turkmenabat, who topped the women's category, demonstrated equally impressive play.
The podium finish at the Ashgabat stage fully confirmed the high level of the Ashgabat and Lebap chess schools.
In the men's category, Ali Akhmedov (Ashgabat) won second place, and Shakhrukh Turaev (Chess Federation of Turkmenistan) rounded out the top three.
In the women's championship, Aya Bayramova was followed on the podium by another Turkmenabat representative, Myahri Agamuradova, and Nurana Soyunova from the Ashgabat Academy "Küşt älemi" took third place.
Holding the tournament according to FIDE rules and taking into account the international rating system ensures the consistent growth of the Turkmen chess players, who are ready for new starts on the international stage.
At the awards ceremony, the official uniform of the national team was unveiled for the first time. The Turkmen chess players will wear it at the first Chess Olympiad among Turkic countries in Astana from May 13-18.
