In Wuzhen, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Help Police Manage Traffic During the May Holiday Peak
While millions of tourists pour into China's scenic spots, one ancient town has found an unexpected helper in the fight against traffic congestion — right in the sky. That town is Wuzhen, an ancient water town in Zhejiang Province on China's eastern coast. How drones are helping to ease road traffic during the May holidays — as reported by ССTV+.
The five day holidays, which run from May 1st to 5th, have attracted large numbers of visitors to this picturesque town. To cope with the heavy traffic flow, local authorities have deployed a drone to assist police in coordinating road traffic.
Equipped with a built in loudspeaker, the drone provides drivers with real time information — helping them find available parking spaces, avoid traffic jams, and prevent illegal parking. All of this contributes to smoother traffic flow in key scenic areas of the town.
According to Bu Yalin, captain of the Wuzhen detachment of the traffic management brigade under the Tongxiang Public Security Bureau, compared to traditional patrolling by officers and surveillance cameras, the drone has a wider observation range and a larger patrol area. This, he noted, helps further improve the efficiency of traffic management.
