The April diplomatic week in Seoul marked the starting point for preparations for a historic event: the First Central Asia – Republic of Korea Summit, scheduled for September 2026. A meeting of senior officials and a series of meetings at the Foreign Ministry level confirmed that Turkmenistan remains a key initiator in the institutionalization of this partnership.

The diplomatic marathon included bilateral political consultations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea. The parties thoroughly explored areas where Korean technologies and investments can meet Turkmen resource and industrial potential. This includes deep cooperation in energy, industrial construction, and high-tech shipbuilding. Particular attention was paid to water management and the environment – areas where Seoul's innovation expertise can serve as the foundation for sustainable infrastructure projects in the region. Regulatory support for these processes will be provided by the Intergovernmental Commission and the joint Business Council, which activities will be intensified.

The multilateral format of the meeting, chaired by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, Ms. Ui-hye Cecilia Chang, allowed to outline the contours of the future summit. The South Korean side presented a conceptual slogan for the upcoming meeting, focusing on four pillars: peace, prosperity, innovation, and connection through trust. For the Central Asian region, this means a shift from isolated projects to the creation of long-term interaction mechanisms that will bring tangible benefits to citizens through educational exchanges, healthcare development, and tourism.

During a meeting with Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun, the Turkmen delegation emphasized that Ashgabat not only supports dialogue but is also prepared to substantively inform the summit's final documents. Amid the global transformation of supply chains and energy markets, strategic rapprochement between Central Asia and technologically advanced Korea is seen as a natural and necessary step.

The upcoming September summit aims to transform the consultative platform into a powerful tool for regional development, where diplomatic agreements will immediately be translated into investment commitments and practical innovations.
