President Serdar Berdimuhamedov led a mass cycling marathon in Ashgabat
On April 7, Turkmenistan celebrated World Health Day. The main event of the holiday was a large-scale cycling marathon in Ashgabat, launched by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
Thousands of participants gathered early in the morning at the "Bicycle" monument, where Chandybil Avenue and Bekreve Street meet. Joining the head of state were members of the government, heads of parliament, ministries, diplomats, students, and young athletes.
The marathon took place along the picturesque highways of Chandybil and Bitarap Turkmenistan. For the participants, it was more than just a cross-country race, but a true celebration: performances by creative groups unfolded along the route, filling the city with music and energy.
The President's participation in the race is not only a personal example of excellent physical fitness but also an expression of commitment to the goals of Turkmenistan's sports diplomacy, which is bearing tangible fruit. This is evidenced by Ashgabat's designation as the "City of New Sports Opportunities of the Commonwealth," Turkmenistan's election to the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport for 2023–2027, and more.
The bicycle has become a symbol of environmental awareness in Turkmenistan. Mass rallies complement the large-scale National Forestry Program: while thousands of people choose eco-friendly transport, millions of seedlings are planted across the country. This is our contribution to the global fight for climate change and sustainable development.
Particular attention was paid to the younger generation on this day. Thanks to the work of the Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Charitable Foundation, sports and high-quality healthcare are becoming accessible to every child in need.
The bike ride concluded in the city center near the Rukhiyet Palace. The marathon's finish was a clear confirmation that the nation's health remains the state's top priority. Festive sporting events that day spread across the country, from the new town of Arkadag to regional centers.
