Uzbekistan and Japan launch advanced STEM project to train engineers and scientists
The Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of Uzbekistan and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) are expanding their partnership in training highly qualified personnel. During a meeting in Tashkent, the parties discussed the launch of new educational initiatives and the implementation of the strategic project “Advanced STEM Human Resources Development.” This was reported by Yuz.uz.
Uzbekistan’s cooperation with JICA has a long and successful history. One of the key programs is the JDS project, under which hundreds of young Uzbek specialists have obtained master’s and doctoral degrees at leading universities in Japan. Today, these professionals actively apply Japanese experience to the development of the national economy and science.
The main focus of the new phase of cooperation will be the training of specialists in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). The project aims to supply Uzbekistan’s labor market with engineers and technologists capable of working with the most advanced global innovations.
During the negotiations, the parties outlined practical steps for implementing the project:
• Modernizing education: introducing advanced Japanese methodologies into the learning process.
• Practical exchange: expanding internship programs and joint research initiatives.
• Technology transfer: applying Japan’s experience to develop innovative infrastructure in universities.
The development of such projects opens up unique opportunities for Uzbek youth to receive world-class international education. It not only enhances graduates’ competitiveness in the labor market but also lays the foundation for the country’s technological advancement.
