On March 25, a meeting took place at UNESCO headquarters in Paris between Turkmenistan’s Minister of Education, Jumamurad Gurbangeldiyev, and the organization’s Deputy Director-General, Stefania Giannini. The talks were held within the framework of the presentation of the Global Education Monitoring Report (GEM Report 2026), according to the official website of Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Education.

The main topic of the discussion was the digital transformation of the educational process and the implementation of modern technologies. The parties discussed expanding the network of UNESCO Associated Schools and Chairs in Turkmenistan, as well as active cooperation with the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies.

Stefania Giannini highly praised the educational reforms in Turkmenistan. She emphasized their systematic nature and significant achievements in modernizing the national school, developing inclusive education, and increasing youth competitiveness at the global level.

An important point of discussion was Ashgabat’s participation in the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities, which Turkmenistan’s capital officially joined in 2025. This status confirms the country’s commitment to the concept of lifelong learning.

On the sidelines of the forum, a meeting was also held with the Minister of Preschool and School Education of Uzbekistan, Ezzozkhon Karimova. The heads of the ministries agreed to exchange best practices in teacher training and the implementation of innovative methodologies. Special attention was paid to developing direct contacts between schools and the joint participation of students in international Olympiads.

The outcomes of the Paris meetings confirmed the strong interest of international partners in cooperating with Turkmenistan to implement joint programs in the fields of science and innovation.
