ORIENT | March 27. At a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on Friday, a historic document was adopted: the Concept for the Development of the Intellectual Property System in Turkmenistan for 2026–2052. Deputy Prime Minister Hojamyrat Geldimyradov presented the draft, which will serve as the legal and economic foundation for the country's innovative development over the next quarter century.

The new Concept, approved by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, is a response to the challenges of the times. It transforms creativity and scientific research into a real market asset. Key areas of the strategy include harmonizing national legislation with international standards. This is important for WTO accession and attracting investment. Particular emphasis is placed on supporting youth entrepreneurship. Innovations now receive not only legal protection but also mechanisms for their implementation in production.

The President signed a decree approving not only the long-term vision but also a specific Action Plan for the first five years (2026–2030). The Ministry of Finance and relevant agencies will be responsible for implementing these measures.

The adoption of the Concept through 2052 signals a long-term planning horizon. Intellectual property is not just music or books; it primarily includes patents in energy, agribusiness, and IT. Now, Turkmen inventors and startups have a clear roadmap, and foreign investors have guarantees that their technologies are protected at the highest state level in Turkmenistan.
