Turkmenistan and Uganda to Hold First Round of Political Consultations
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan has become a platform for discussing prospects for cooperation with the Republic of Uganda. On Tuesday, March 24, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov held talks with his Ugandan counterpart, Minister of State Henry Oryem Okello.
Diplomatic relations between the countries, established in 1999, received a new boost following the participation of the Ugandan delegation, led by Prime Minister Robina Nabbanja, in the Third UN Conference on Developing Countries (LLDC3), held in Avaza in the summer of 2025.
The main outcome of the current meeting was the decision to transition to regular interagency contacts. The first round of political consultations between the two countries' foreign ministries is scheduled for the second half of 2026 in Ashgabat.
The parties outlined the creation of a platform for direct business interaction. Priority areas include agriculture, the oil and gas industry, and expanding ties in science, education, and sports.
Particular emphasis was placed on coordinating actions within the UN, where both countries share similar positions on global security and sustainable development.
