Turkmenistan and Iraq to activate humanitarian and energy cooperation
Iraqi delegation headed by Nizar Issa Abdul-Hadi Al Khairalla, the undersecretary of foreign ministry for bilateral relation, is on a visit to Ashgabat. During the political consultations at the level of deputy foreign ministers hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the sides paid special attention to expanding cooperation in such areas as regional security and political diplomatic cooperation. The Iraqi side has expressed support for the neutral policy of Turkmenistan and showed keen interest in activating interaction within the framework of international organizations such as the UN and OIC. As stated during the consultations, Turkmenistan and Iraq intend to establish an exchange of information within international organizations on such topical issues as combating terrorism and eradicating its causes. The current state of relations were touched upon, including the prospects of expansion of cooperation in trade, economy and energy. In the opinion of the sides, this can be facilitated through the establishment of direct contacts between the business circles of the two countries and widening the legal basis of relations. The Turkmen side had shown interest in intensifying the humanitarian component of the partnership by attracting Iraqi scientists to various scientific conferences in Turkmenistan.
