The Russian Federation Council Supports Ashgabat's Initiatives for its CIS Chairmanship
The development of bilateral strategic partnership and the implementation of Turkmenistan's large-scale program for its CIS chairmanship in 2026 were the main topics of the meeting between Turkmenistan's Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Esen Aidogdyev, and Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council, Konstantin Kosachev.
The meeting, held on March 5 in Moscow, confirmed the status of interparliamentary dialogue as a key instrument for bringing the two countries closer together. The parties paid special attention to the international agenda, which is centered on Ashgabat's chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States this year.
Konstantin Kosachev praised the concept for the chairmanship prepared by Turkmenistan, calling it "very serious and comprehensive." The Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council emphasized Russia's readiness to fully support Ashgabat's proposed initiatives.
"We will be happy to support the parliamentary events proposed by Turkmenistan, both bilaterally and within the framework of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly," Kosachev assured.
In addition to multilateral cooperation, the interlocutors noted the steady growth of bilateral ties. The strategic nature of Russia-Turkmenistan relations today encompasses not only the economic sector but also deep humanitarian and political cooperation at the legislative level.
The Federation Council of the Russian Federation's support for Ashgabat's initiatives at the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly will be an important factor in the successful implementation of Turkmenistan's chairmanship program, aimed at strengthening stability and integration in the region.
The interlocutors also discussed the situation in the Middle East and the alarming developments surrounding Iran. Konstantin Kosachev thanked the Turkmen side for its organizational and logistical assistance in evacuating Russian citizens from the conflict zone. "We constantly felt your support and attention, without which it would have been difficult to manage," he said.
