Chinese premier meets with Uruguayan president
Chinese Premier Li Qiang met with President of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay Yamandu Orsi in Beijing on Tuesday.
Following the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China stands ready to work with Uruguay to provide firm mutual support on issues concerning each other's core interests, said Li, adding that China is set to continue adhering to openness and win-win cooperation with Uruguay.
The premier expressed China's readiness to expand cooperation with Uruguay in trade, science and technology, industrial innovation and the green economy, and enhance people-to-people and cultural exchanges, so as to bring more benefits to the two peoples.
The two countries should strengthen multilateral coordination, uphold multilateralism and free trade, and defend common interests of the Global South, Li said.
For his part, Orsi said that Uruguay adheres firmly to the one-China principle, looks forward to carrying out closer high-level exchanges with China, actively participates in the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, and is deepening exchange and cooperation in various fields.
Uruguay is a firm supporter of the global initiatives China has proposed, and is willing to work with China to strengthen multilateral coordination and safeguard multilateralism, he said.
Orsi on Sunday began his week-long state visit to China. He is the first leader from Latin America to visit China in 2026, and his visit follows those of leaders from Ireland, the Republic of Korea, Canada, Finland and Britain.
