Turkmenistan Leads Central Asia in Growth Rate of Tourist Arrivals to Malaysia
Turkmenistan has recorded the highest growth rate of tourist arrivals to Malaysia among Central Asian countries. According to the results of 2025, the number of visitors from Turkmenistan increased by 42.49%, reaching 10,751 arrivals. This represents the highest percentage growth in the region, as reported by the Embassy of Malaysia in Turkmenistan on social media.
Amid growing interest in tourism destinations, on January 27, 2026, Malaysian Ambassador Suhaimi held a meeting with Arslan Haidarov, General Director of TM Travel. The parties discussed the promotion of tourism products in the markets of Turkmenistan and Malaysia, as well as prospects for business cooperation.
Special attention was given to opportunities related to the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 initiative, including cooperation between TM Travel and Malaysian tour operators. The potential for developing transit and short-term visits for Malaysian pilgrims performing umrah using flights operated by Turkmenistan Airlines was also considered.
It is noted that the positive dynamics of tourist flows reflect the expanding tourism and transport ties between Turkmenistan and Malaysia and open up additional opportunities for the development of the sector.
