From January 25 to 28, major intellectual competitions for students — BIMO: International Mathematics Olympiad 2026 and BIChO-2026: International Chemistry Olympiad — were held at Bukhara State University in the Republic of Uzbekistan. This was reported by the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan.

These international Olympiads were highly successful for Turkmen students. Students from higher education institutions of Turkmenistan demonstrated excellent results, winning a total of 46 medals (17 gold, 17 silver, and 12 bronze).

More than 500 students and 100 teams from over 10 countries, including Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Russia, China, India, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Jordan, and Tajikistan, took part in the competitions.

Olympiad Stages

Individual Stage: Students competed individually, solving complex problems in mathematics and chemistry.

Team Stage: Participants represented their educational institutions, showcasing their achievements in team competitions.

BIMO (Mathematics)

• Mathematical analysis: limits, series, and improper integrals.

• Linear algebra: matrices, determinants, and finite-dimensional spaces.

• Number theory and combinatorics: divisibility problems and graphs.

BIChO (Chemistry)

• Inorganic chemistry: chemistry of transition metals and complex compounds.

• Organic chemistry: reaction mechanisms and synthesis pathways.

• Physical chemistry: thermodynamics, kinetics, and electrochemistry.

In addition to the competitions, students were particularly inspired by the opportunity to meet peers from different parts of the world who share common values. The Olympiads were not only a test of their mathematical and chemical skills but also a platform for building friendly relationships. Participants also visited the historical landmarks of Bukhara.

Furthermore, the events provided opportunities for professors and teachers to exchange experience on modern methods of teaching the exact sciences.

The organizers generally follow the standards of international competitions such as the IMC in mathematics and the IChO in chemistry, incorporating their own distinctive features.
