Turkmenistan Launches Preparations for the 2028 Year of International Law
Ashgabat, January 30 | ORIENT. Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov presented a detailed action plan for preparations for 2028, which, on the initiative of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, has been proposed as the Year of International Law. This initiative, first announced at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, aims to strengthen the legal framework of modern international relations.
Strategic Partnership with the UN: Ashgabat has identified the UN Secretariat's Office of Legal Affairs as a key partner in implementing this initiative. The process will include submitting a draft resolution to the UN General Assembly and developing a national concept, "International Law and the Neutrality of Turkmenistan."
Legal Literacy: From Schools to the UN Podium. The plan is unique in that it targets not only diplomats but also the next generation. Turkmenistan is planning a large-scale educational campaign.
Universities and Schools will offer specialized courses on international law, with the participation of UN experts.
Young People will take part in research paper and essay competitions, aimed at discovering talented international legal scholars.
Information Environment: A specialized section will be created on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website, where materials on international legal topics will be publicly available.
Turkmenistan's 2028 initiative is an attempt to institutionalize a policy of neutrality through the prism of law. Turkmenistan effectively proposes that the international community return to the basic "rules of the game" at a time when the old security architecture is crumbling.
