Ashgabat and Rabat Are Preparing the Ground for the Creation of a Joint Economic Commission.
Ashgabat, January 28 | ORIENT. The foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and the Kingdom of Morocco held a round of political consultations in Ashgabat aimed at a systemic "reset" of bilateral relations. The meeting between Yazguly Mamedov, Head of the Middle East and Africa Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, and Omar Kadiri, Director of the Department for Asia and Oceania, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Morocco, demonstrated that the countries are ready to move from diplomatic gestures to concrete economic mechanisms.
The main outcome of the talks was the creation of a Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation. This body is intended to serve as a task force for the implementation of projects in key areas:
Industry: Oil and gas, textiles, and chemicals (where Morocco is one of the world's leading fertilizer producers).
Agriculture and Tourism: Sharing agricultural expertise and developing tourist routes.
The diplomats noted that the next step will be organizing direct meetings between ministries and business representatives of the two countries.
The parties paid special attention to expanding the legal framework. Work on new documents in the areas of transport, education, and science is planned to be intensified in the near future.
Given Morocco's advantageous geographical position as a hub between Africa and Europe, and Turkmenistan's position as a hub in Central Asia, transport cooperation opens up strategic prospects for transit flows.
Turkmenistan and Morocco confirmed the effectiveness of their mutual support for initiatives within the UN, underscoring their shared approaches to pressing international issues.
