The famous futuristic Sphere arena in Las Vegas is expanding its network. Sphere Entertainment has announced plans to build a new venue in the National Harbor tourist complex on the U.S. East Coast. Unlike the original, the new arena will be a more compact version, accommodating 6,000 spectators instead of 20,000.

Despite its smaller scale, visitors will experience the same cutting-edge technologies as in Las Vegas. Inside, the venue will feature a massive 16K-resolution screen, a powerful audio system with tens of thousands of speakers, and tactile seats. This will allow concerts and film screenings to be held with a full sense of immersion.

Notably, the expansion is moving forward despite financial challenges. The first Sphere cost approximately $2.3 billion to build, and its annual revenue has not yet covered expenses. Nevertheless, the company is betting on global expansion. In addition to the Maryland venue, a full-scale Sphere with a height of 111 meters is planned for construction in Abu Dhabi.

For the entertainment industry, this signals is the beginning of a new era of immersive shows. Investors and tourists alike are closely watching whether the “live cinema” concept can become profitable on a global scale.
