Russian scientists created a plumbing robot for repairing and cleaning hard-to-reach sections of pipes
Experts from Perm and Volgograd have developed an intelligent robot capable of independently diagnosing and repairing pipeline systems. The new development is designed to serve both residential buildings and industrial facilities, providing access to the most difficult sections of networks, TASS reports.
The main advantage of the device is its unique maneuverability. Thanks to a system of six “legs” and twelve spring-loaded wheels, the robot maintains close contact with the pipe walls even on uneven surfaces. This allows it to confidently move vertically and navigate sharp 90-degree turns.
The intelligent system automatically adjusts to pipe diameters from 500 to 1400 mm. At the same time, the robot can operate in pipelines which diameter is twice as small as required by existing analogues. Using a special hose, the machine can not only detect faults but also independently remove blockages.
The use of such technology significantly simplifies the work of utility services. It eliminates the need for costly excavations or wall dismantling during each accident. Successful tests confirmed that the robot will become a reliable and economical solution for quickly restoring urban networks and extending their service life.
