Belarus Approves Culture Development and Castle Restoration Program Through 2030
The Government of Belarus has approved a new state program titled “Cultural Space” for 2026–2030. The large-scale document outlines how the country will preserve its historic castles and introduce digital technologies in museums and libraries over the next five years, according to BELTA.
The program is anticipated extensive restoration work across the country. Funding will be provided from both the national and local budgets. Plans include completing key projects that are expected to become new tourist attractions:
• In 2027, the entire complex of buildings of the National Art Museum will be fully renovated.
• From 2026 to 2029, restoration of the magnificent Ruzhany Palace Complex will continue.
• By 2029, restoration of the famous Corpus Christi Church in Nesvizh will be completed.
• In 2030, large-scale reconstruction and conservation of the Novogrudok Castle will be finalized.
Special attention is given to digitalization, making culture more accessible through modern technologies. The Ministry plans to create national digital content, including the digitization of museum collections, rare books, and even items of traditional crafts. Virtual tours will be developed for those unable to visit cultural sites in person, while libraries will transition to new automated search systems.
Alongside heritage preservation, the state intends to actively promote contemporary art and Belarusian cinema. Strengthening Belarus’s international image and integrating national art into the global cultural space through new festivals and exhibitions will be among the program’s key objectives.
