Construction of one of the region’s largest cultural landmarks—the National Theatre—is nearing completion in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan. In his annual Address, President Emomali Rahmon emphasized that the opening of this facility will be the main gift to the people and to cultural figures in celebration of the 35th anniversary of the country’s State Independence.

The construction of the theatre began in 2015, and its design was developed over five years. Architects drew on the experience of the world’s leading theatres, combining international standards with a national architectural style. The building, standing 34.5 meters high, consists of five above-ground floors and two underground levels. Its well-thought-out design makes it one of the most beautiful architectural structures in Dushanbe.

The key feature of the new theatre is its capacity and advanced technical equipment. The building will include three large auditoriums:

• The main hall with 2,500 seats, 18-meter-high ceilings, and a modern orchestra pit.

• A second hall designed to accommodate 1,200 spectators.

• A third hall capable of hosting 1,000 people at the same time.

In addition to performance stages, the theatre will house rehearsal spaces, artistic workshops, exhibition halls, and office premises. This will make it possible not only to stage large-scale productions but also to develop new directions in the arts.

The opening of a theatre of this scale marks a new stage in the development of Tajik civilization. For residents of the city, it offers the opportunity to attend world-class performances in modern conditions, while for talented youth it provides a platform to realize their creative potential. The project underscores the priority of cultural education for future generations in state policy.
