A new study revealed the global role of honey bees in nature

An unprecedented study combining data from all over the globe has shown that honey bees are the most important in the world unique species of pollinators, and a key factor contributing to ecosystem functioning. Recently, the first detailed report on the quantitative analysis of such data, led by the biologists of the University of California at San Diego, was published.
The results of the research clearly identify the honey bee is one of the most frequent visitors of naturally growing flowers throughout the world. They are responsible for 89% of the pollination in the "native" habitat and 61% in the regions where they were introduced by people.
The global importance of the honey bee is further emphasized, given that it is just one of tens of thousands of pollinating species in the world, including wasps, flies, beetles, butterflies, moths, etc. All this only strengthens the attention of environmental scientists to these worldwide spread very successful insects - honey bees.
