The architectural studio URB has unveiled THE LOOP, a large-scale covered corridor stretching 93 kilometers and encircling the entire city of Dubai. This innovative pedestrian and cycling highway aims to solve one of the city’s main challenges — extreme heat, which makes daytime walking almost impossible.

The project’s primary goal is to ensure that by 2040, 80% of Dubai’s residents can commute to work on foot or by bicycle. THE LOOP is designed as a massive glass tunnel equipped with a climate control system. Inside, a comfortable environment will be created, featuring parks, sports areas, skate parks, and recreational zones. As a result, a daily commute will turn into a pleasant walk through a cool, circular park.

The creators plan to use 100% renewable energy for lighting and recycled water for irrigating plants. The project not only promotes a healthy lifestyle but also significantly reduces the city’s dependence on automobiles. For tourists, THE LOOP will become a new global attraction, allowing them to explore the city at any time of day without the risk of overheating.

At present, THE LOOP is in the approval stage and has been included in the Dubai 2040 development plan. Although construction timelines and budget have not yet been finalized, the project is already being described as one of the most ambitious architectural concepts of the future, capable of transforming the image of modern megacities.

The project addresses the challenge of comfortable mobility in hot climates. Currently, Dubai residents are often forced to rely on taxis or remain inside shopping malls. The introduction of THE LOOP would provide a safe opportunity to exercise and enjoy outdoor walking within a controlled environment.
