Health: How to "Rewind" Your Brain's Age by 8 Years
A new study has proven that our brains are incredibly plastic. Using MRI scans, scientists discovered that a combination of four habits—optimism, quality sleep, stress management, and active social interaction—makes the brain biologically 8 years younger than its chronological age. This even works for people with chronic illnesses, as reported by Science Daily, citing the University of Florida.
"These are things people have some control over," said Jared Tanner, PhD, a research fellow in clinical and health psychology at the University of Florida and one of the study's leaders. "You can learn to perceive stress differently. Poor sleep is highly treatable. Optimism can be practiced."
The study followed 128 middle-aged and older adults for two years. MRI scans processed by a machine learning model were used to assess each participant's "brain age" and its changes. It was found that protective habits (sleep, healthy weight, smoking cessation, and socializing) had a stronger and more consistent association with a youthful brain than the negative influence of external factors.

In Awati County, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in northwest China, the results of a five-year project to combat desertification have been officially announced. The previously arid and barren region has been transformed into a thriving wetland. Thanks to the efforts of scientists and local residents, the ecosystem has been restored, rare birds and plants have returned, and the climate has become milder.

However, local authorities and scientists have managed to transform it into a thriving wetland.
This was an ongoing effort that required genuine innovation from the government and researchers. They developed a comprehensive strategy that included recycling urban wastewater, widespread use of drip irrigation, and large-scale afforestation.
Since 2020, a total of 52,500 hectares of land have been restored, with forest cover increasing from 4.5% to 45%. The region has become home to a diverse range of vegetation, attracting flocks of migratory birds and hosting over 200 species of wildlife.
