At a recent meeting of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, an order was given to promptly open "green corridors" at the border to ensure uninterrupted supplies of Turkmen vegetables.

This measure is aimed at stabilizing prices during the winter. Taking into account the seasonal increase in prices for greenhouse vegetables, primarily cucumbers and tomatoes, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy Serik Zhumangarin ordered the prompt establishment of green corridors for Turkmen produce at border checkpoints. This was reported on the Government of Kazakhstan's website.

Simplified customs and border procedures will allow fruit and vegetable produce from Turkmen greenhouses to reach Kazakhstani stores as quickly as possible at affordable prices, avoiding lengthy border delays.

This decision is a logical continuation of the negotiations between the two countries. The foundation for the current agreement was laid in late November 2025. During the Turkmen delegation's visit to Astana, Deputy Prime Ministers Khodjamyrat Geldimyradov and Serik Zhumangarin discussed in detail the potential of Turkmenistan's agro-industrial complex.

Previously on this topic: In our publication "Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan Discuss 'Green Corridor for Agricultural Products," we reported on the parties' plans to increase trade turnover to $1 billion. Even then, it was noted that Turkmen tomatoes had become the second most important export commodity to Kazakhstan, with shipments exceeding 30,000 tons in just nine months of the year.

What does this mean for Turkmenistan's producers?

The opening of "green corridors" confirms Turkmenistan's status as a key agricultural partner in the region. For domestic agricultural producers, this means:

• A guaranteed market in a neighboring country;

• Reducing logistics costs and risks of product spoilage;

• Incentives for the expansion of greenhouse farms.

The opening of "green corridors" confirms Turkmenistan's status as a key agricultural partner in the region. For domestic agricultural producers, this means:

Thus, the goal set by the two heads of state to increase mutual trade is gaining concrete implementation mechanisms, benefiting both producers in Turkmenistan and consumers in Kazakhstan.
