The Uzbek agency Uzbekcosmos and the Chinese company STAR.VISION have signed a cooperation memorandum, under which the hyperspectral satellite being developed in China will be named “Samarqand-2028,” Yuz.uz reports.

The name was chosen in honor of the International Astronautical Congress 2028 in Samarkand — the largest space forum in Central Asia.

Uzbekistan’s Contribution and Satellite Benefits

According to the memorandum, Uzbekcosmos specialists will develop a key artificial intelligence (AI) module for the Earth observation satellite.

The hyperspectral images obtained by the satellite will provide:

• Real-time monitoring of atmospheric air quality.

• High-precision assessment of agricultural crops and forest areas.

• Analytical information for various economic sectors.

The “Samarqand-2028” satellite will represent a new step in strengthening international space cooperation between Uzbekistan and China, as well as enhancing Uzbekistan’s scientific and technological capabilities.
