The heads of state of Central Asia have signed a joint appeal urging UN member states to support the candidacy of the Kyrgyz Republic for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2027–2028 term.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, this was stated by Uzbekistan’s Permanent Representative, Ulugbek Lapasov, during a briefing at the UN Security Council Media Center.

Lapasov emphasized that the region’s leaders view Kyrgyzstan’s nomination as a key step in strengthening Central Asia’s contribution to global peace and security. The appeal calls for unified support for Kyrgyzstan’s bid, underscoring the region’s aspiration to enhance its role in global decision-making processes. Kyrgyzstan’s Permanent Representative Aida Kasymalieva expressed gratitude for the support from the Central Asian states. She stated that the solidarity demonstrated by the region reflects their shared commitment to multilateralism and peace. If elected, Kyrgyzstan is ready to serve as a principled member of the Security Council, ensuring that the voices of small and developing nations are heard in global discussions.
