Tech giants Amazon (AWS) and Google (Google Cloud) have announced a joint development — a new networking service called Multicloud. This solution aims to meet the growing demand for reliable, high-speed connectivity, especially critical amid increasing traffic related to artificial intelligence.

Multicloud allows customers to establish private, high-speed connections between the computing platforms of the two largest cloud providers. The main advantage: the connection process, which previously could take weeks, can now be completed in just a few minutes.

According to Google Cloud Vice President Rob Enns, the joint network will simplify the movement of data and applications between clouds. This enhances resilience, as Multicloud guarantees reliable connectivity even in the event of local internet outages. The relevance of this solution was highlighted by a recent large-scale AWS outage affecting hundreds of global services.

In addition, the companies have released an open API (under the Apache-2.0 license) for coordinating managed layer-3 network connections, further improving interoperability and integration.
