Turkmen chess player becomes champion of an international tournament in Turkey

From 9 to 15 November, the 9th International Chess Tournament organized by the Mersin Municipality was held in the city of Mersin, Turkey. From 9 to 15 November, the 9th International Chess Tournament organized by the Mersin Municipality was held in the city of Mersin, Turkey. A total of 360 chess players from 19 countries took part in the event.

It is particularly noteworthy that in the highest “A” category of the tournament, which was held in four divisions, Turkmen international grandmaster Meylis Annaberdiyev (FIDE rating 2407) became the champion. He scored 7 out of a possible 9 points and, according to additional tiebreak indicators, managed to surpass Iranian international master Arash Tahbezi. Throughout the tournament, Meylis won 5 games and drew 4 matches played against the top five strongest participants. The third place in the “A” category was taken by Iranian player Arian Gholami.
