Turkmenistan to Host Regional Training on CTBTO – Contribution to Nuclear Non-Proliferation


Turkmenistan reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the goals and principles of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBTO), calling it a key element of the international disarmament and non-proliferation system. The statement was made by the Turkmen delegation, led by Guljemal Saryeva, Director of the Institute of Seismology and Atmospheric Physics of the Academy of Sciences, at the 65th Session of the CTBTO Preparatory Commission in Vienna.
Emphasizing its role in strengthening global security, the Turkmen delegation noted that the country was one of the first to sign and ratify the Treaty and consistently advocates for the prevention of nuclear proliferation.
Particular attention during the plenary session was given to Turkmenistan's specific contribution to the International Monitoring System (IMS) and its scientific and technical potential. The important role of the PS44 Alibek Primary Seismic Station, which is part of the International Monitoring System and ensures the transmission of reliable data to the International Data Center, was noted.

CTBTO expert mission is expected to visit Turkmenistan soon to conduct scheduled maintenance at the plant, demonstrating the high level of cooperation in the field of verification.
Turkmenistan continues to actively develop its National Data Center and participates in CTBTO training programs.
As part of strengthening the region's scientific and technical potential, the Turkmen delegation announced its readiness to conduct a regional training course for specialists from National Data Centers in Central Asian countries in the first half of 2026.
This initiative underscores Ashgabat's commitment not only to fulfilling its national obligations but also to sharing its experience, acting as a regional coordinator in the field of nuclear safety.

The year 2026 has particular symbolic significance as it marks the 30th anniversary of the Treaty's opening for signature and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's participation in it. The country has expressed its readiness to participate in events commemorating this anniversary, reaffirming its commitment to peace and security.
