On November 11, Deputy Minister Myahri Byashimova met with Jamila Hammami, Deputy Head of the Regional Office of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Central Asia, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

During a constructive conversation, the parties reviewed the progress of the Cooperation Plan between the Government of Turkmenistan and the ICRC for 2025.

Programs aimed at promoting international humanitarian law, supporting vulnerable groups, and strengthening the work of the National Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan were discussed.

A separate topic was the discussion of Turkmenistan's prospects for joining the Global Initiative on Strengthening Political Commitment to International Humanitarian Law.

The Turkmen side emphasized its role as an active participant in humanitarian activities. It was noted that Turkmenistan consistently provides humanitarian assistance to countries experiencing the effects of crises, including regular support to neighboring Afghanistan. Furthermore, assistance to the populations of other countries is provided with the support of the Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Charitable Foundation for Assistance to Children in Need.

Following the meeting, the parties discussed the participation of the ICRC delegation in upcoming commemorative events in Turkmenistan marking the International Year of Peace and Trust, International Neutrality Day, and the 30th anniversary of the country's permanent neutrality, reaffirming their readiness to continue constructive cooperation in all priority areas of humanitarian partnership.

The Global Initiative to Strengthen Political Commitment to International Humanitarian Law was launched by Brazil, Jordan, China, Kazakhstan, France, and South Africa, jointly with the International Committee of the Red Cross, in September 2024.
