Turkmenbashi, November 2 | ORIENT. A large-scale project was launched today in Turkmenistan's western region, Turkmenbashi Etrap: the construction of a modern carbamide production complex.

This event marked the culmination of two important meetings between President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the leaders of the international consortium – representatives of Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. and Turkey's Çalik Holding.

Meeting with a Japanese Partner: A Look to the Future

During the talks with Eisaku Ito, Chief Executive Officer of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, the discussion focused not only on current projects but also on the strategic prospects for Turkmen-Japanese cooperation.

Japan has a long-standing presence in the Turkmen market, working in key sectors such as the fuel and energy sector, electric power, and chemical industry.

Among the key points of the dialogue, it was worth highlighting Turkmenistan's continued commitment to creating favorable conditions for foreign partners, especially high-tech companies.

Eisaku Ito, in turn, expressed support for the policy of innovative industrialization and greening the economy, noting that the caarbamide complex project embodies these principles.

The parties agreed that cooperation extends beyond individual projects and is aimed at a long-term partnership.

For Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, this project is not just a commercial contract, but an opportunity to strengthen its position in Central Asia by showcasing Japanese technologies in the fields of green chemistry and energy-efficient production.

The Turkish Vector: Traditions and Innovations

A meeting with Ahmet Çalık, Chairman of the Board of Governors of Çalik Holding, revealed another important aspect of Turkmenistan's foreign economic policy – deepening ties with Turkey.

Historically, Turkmen-Turkish relations are based on cultural and linguistic affinities, mutual economic interests, and a strategic vision for regional development.

The main topics covered during the discussion included Çalik Holding's role in implementing large-scale projects in Turkmenistan, prospects for energy cooperation, including electricity exports across the Caspian Sea (including to Turkey), and the importance of the carbamide complex for economic diversification – its capacity will be 1,155,000 tons of product per year.

Ahmet Çalık, who frequently emphasizes that Turkmens and Turks share a common ethnic origin, noted during the meeting that it is a great honor for the Turkish company to participate in projects that strengthen Turkmenistan's economy.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, in turn, noted that the Turkmen-Turkish partnership continues to gain new content, encompassing an ever-increasing number of sectors.

What does the Project Mean for the Region?

The construction of the carbamide complex is more than just a new plant. It is, first and foremost, an economic diversification measure. Completion of the project will allow Turkmenistan, which is developing its gas chemical industry, to take another step toward supplying finished products, rather than raw materials, to global markets.

It is also important that Turkmenistan, not resting on its laurels, continues to consistently implement major projects to technologically modernize its national economy. The use of advanced Japanese and Turkish solutions will ensure high energy efficiency and compliance with international environmental standards.

Regional integration is currently clearly underway. The possibility of exporting carbamide to countries in Central Asia, the Middle East, and other regions significantly strengthens Turkmenistan's position as a trading partner.

Finally, one of the key factors is the creation of new jobs. The construction and operation of the complex will create thousands of new positions, stimulating the development of local personnel.

What are the Prospects for International Cooperation?

Meetings with executives of major companies demonstrate that Turkmenistan is building a multi-faceted partnership, balancing between East and West, and emphasizing green technologies and sustainable development.

For Japan and Turkey, this project is an additional opportunity to further strengthen their presence in the Central Asian region, demonstrate the competitiveness of their technologies, and lay the foundation for new joint initiatives.

It's also worth remembering that carbamide is a key nitrogen fertilizer in global agriculture. Its importance is difficult to overestimate. Carbamide effectively stimulates plant growth, increasing the yield of grain, vegetable, and fruit crops by 30-50%.

An important property of carbamide is its versatility—this type of fertilizer is suitable for most soil types and crops. Moreover, carbamide is used not only in agriculture but also in industry, for example, in the production of adhesives, resins, and certain types of plastics.

For Turkmenistan, where the agricultural sector remains a vital part of the economy, domestic carbamide production reduces dependence on imported fertilizers, provides farmers with a high-quality product at an affordable price, and offers potential for export to neighboring countries in the region.

The start of construction of the carbamide complex in the Turkmenbashi district is a significant event for the economy of Turkmenistan. It reflects the country's commitment to technological independence, while also increasing Turkmenistan's potential in the global agricultural supply chain.

Amid growing global demand for food and fertilizers, such a plant not only strengthens Turkmenistan's economy but also opens up new opportunities for cooperation in Central Asia and beyond.
