Chinese startups are increasingly taking the lead on the global technology stage, creating companies that set new standards in artificial intelligence, robotics, and autonomous technologies. The country is actively investing in venture capital, training a new generation of engineers and programmers, and developing infrastructure for large-scale tech projects.

According to CB Insights, China is among the top three countries with the largest number of tech “unicorns”—startups capable of transforming industries. Many of these companies develop solutions comparable to Western counterparts, but tailored to local markets and real-world needs.

Mech-Mind Robotics, established in Beijing in 2016, develops computer vision technologies for warehouse and production line automation.

Zhipu AI (Z.ai), founded at Tsinghua University in Beijing in 2019, develops large language models and intelligent agents capable of processing text, voice, and images. Its flagship model, GLM-4, is comparable to GPT-4 and optimized for the Chinese language. Investors include Alibaba, Tencent, and Ant Group.

In autonomous transportation, Pony.ai, founded in 2016 by Stanford graduates and former Baidu engineers, is testing robotaxis in major cities in China and California. Its partnership with Toyota enables international expansion.
