Strategy of Neutrality and Trust

In his speech, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov emphasized the country's unwavering commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with the UN, which has remained the guarantor of international peace and security for eight decades.

It was noted that the initiatives of President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov at UN General Assembly sessions reflect a profound understanding of global challenges and are aimed at strengthening the Organization's role.

Particular attention was paid to promoting the concept of peace and trust, strengthening international law, and supporting landlocked developing countries. In this regard, it was emphasized that the Avaza Political Declaration, adopted by the General Assembly, was an important achievement of multilateral diplomacy.

Turkmenistan is a party to 192 international UN conventions and, since 2005, has implemented more than 566 national and regional projects with a total value of over $545 million within the UN system.

Economy and SDGs: Results and Prospects

Heads of relevant ministries and representatives of UN agencies (including UNDP, UNICEF, UNFPA, WHO, and UNRCCA) presented reports on fruitful cooperation. Key areas included:

Finance and Economy. Minister of Finance and Economy Mammetguly Astanagulov reported on the implementation of two projects with UNDP (totaling over $399,000) aimed at sustainable economic diversification, adapting digital technologies for SDG implementation, and strengthening national capacity for WTO accession.

Healthcare. Minister Myrat Mammedov noted the strategic partnership with UNICEF and UNFPA, including the approval of an updated national immunization schedule (introduction of the hexavalent vaccine) and support for reproductive health development.

Preventive Diplomacy. The important role of cooperation with the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) in strengthening an atmosphere of peace and trust in the region was noted.

A New Strategic Cycle

Conference participants unanimously agreed that the 80th anniversary of the UN was not only an important milestone but also an opportunity to reaffirm their commitment to the shared goals of peace, trust, and partnership.

The ceremonial signing of the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework between the Government of Turkmenistan and the United Nations for 2026–2030 marked the conference's dramatic conclusion and symbolized Turkmenistan's long-term commitment to the global agenda.

This document, which defines strategic priorities for cooperation over the next five years, marks the transition from a period of review to a new, proactive phase of the partnership between Turkmenistan and the UN.
