On October 20, a Joint Communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Botswana was signed at the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the UN in New York.

Before the signing ceremony, the Permanent Representatives of the two countries to the UN, Aksoltan Ataeva (Turkmenistan) and Charles Masole (Botswana), held a meeting. The diplomats reaffirmed their mutual interest in strengthening friendly ties and developing political, economic, and humanitarian cooperation. Particular attention was paid to interaction within international organizations, primarily within the UN.

The parties exchanged views on current issues of mutual interest on the UN agenda, including strengthening peace and trust, promoting preventive diplomacy, and sustainable development.

On behalf of the Government of Turkmenistan, Ambassador Ataeva invited the Government of Botswana to participate in the upcoming International Forum dedicated to the International Year of Peace and Trust, International Neutrality Day, and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality.

Following the meeting, the diplomats congratulated the governments and peoples of both countries, emphasizing that the establishment of diplomatic relations will provide an important impetus for the development of a long-term and mutually beneficial partnership.
