In 2026, Kazakhstan will begin the widespread implementation of VoWiFi technology, which will allow users to make and receive voice calls over any available Wi-Fi network, officials from telecom operators said at a government meeting.

The technology is aimed at eliminating so-called “white spots” — areas with weak cellular signal inside residential and office buildings.

Evgeny Nastradin, CEO of Kar-Tel, stated that the pilot project has already been successfully completed. “Next year, the technology will become widely available,” he said.

According to industry participants, despite 99% 4G coverage, unstable signal issues persist. The main causes are dense urban development and the removal of certain base stations.

The introduction of VoWiFi is seen as part of efforts to develop digital infrastructure and improve the quality of communications in the country.
