At a government meeting on Friday, October 17, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov reported on the results of the 4th meeting of the Turkmenistan-UN Strategic Advisory Council, held on October 16.

The main outcome of the meeting was the preliminary approval of the final version of the Framework Program for Cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN on Sustainable Development for 2026–2030.

This program, which will be the fifth since 2005, will form the basis for cooperation in such strategic areas as national, regional, and international policy; socioeconomic and environmental spheres; and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

To systematically discuss and improve the effectiveness of joint programs and projects with the UN, it was proposed to establish an Interdepartmental Coordination Commission and hold its first meeting in November of this year.

Concurrently, to expeditiously implement the planned activities, the following initiatives were proposed and approved:

– Preparation of a Joint Action Program with the UN to implement Turkmenistan's Priority Positions at the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly;

– Development of a National Roadmap for the implementation of the documents adopted following the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC-3) – the Avaza Political Declaration and the Avaza Action Programme for 2024–2034.

– Organizing a seminar with representatives of government agencies and the UN at the end of October to strengthen SDG reporting in Turkmenistan.

The meeting also discussed draft joint programs in the areas of youth policy, methane emissions reduction, digital technologies, and the energy sector.

Summarizing the report, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted the consistent development of relations with the UN, approved the proposals presented, and instructed the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs to carry out all relevant work.
