The visit of a delegation from the Turner National Medical Research Center (NMIC) of Pediatric Traumatology and Orthopedics (St. Petersburg) to Ashgabat laid the foundation for a long-term and meaningful partnership with the Turkmen healthcare system. The main outcome of the trip was the agreement on specific steps to implement Russian innovations in the treatment of children with orthopedic pathologies.

As part of the visit, working meetings were held between Director of the Turner National Medical Research Center, Sergey Vissarionov, Minister of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan, Myrat Mamedov, and Director of the Scientific and Clinical Center for Maternal and Child Health, Altymukhamet Annayev.

The parties agreed on a cooperation roadmap for 2026, which includes training in Russia: pediatric traumatologists and orthopedists from the Turkmen center will undergo an internship at the Turner National Medical Research Center in St. Petersburg.

Russian specialists will also conduct a traveling educational seminar in Ashgabat featuring demonstration surgeries on children, focusing on complex spinal deformities.

A memorandum of cooperation, which will formalize scientific, clinical, and educational projects, is in the final stages of approval by the Ministry of Health of Turkmenistan.

A key topic of the negotiations was the integration of modern Russian practices into national care protocols. Turkmen specialists were particularly interested in spinal deformity surgery (from treatment strategy to staged rehabilitation); digital technologies (use of 3D modeling, individualized surgical guides, and intraoperative neuromonitoring); and the implementation of protocols for accelerated recovery and reduced hospitalization times.

As part of the clinical portion of the program, Russian doctors conducted outpatient visits and consultations. Several children with complex orthopedic conditions were recommended for high-tech surgical treatment at the Turner National Medical Research Center.

Thus, the visit confirmed Turkmen physicians' demand for systematic training and modern standards, and the Turner National Medical Research Center is ready to provide the necessary technological solutions and methodology. The overall goal of the partnership is to make high-tech orthopedic care for children more accessible and effective.
