The CIS countries have agreed not to interfere in the internal affairs of sovereign states and not to use measures of economic pressure. As reported by Sputnik Armenia agency, the foreign ministers of the CIS countries made a corresponding joint statement, the text of which was published on the website of the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth. The document was signed by the Foreign Ministers of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. “The foreign ministers consider it unacceptable for one states to use measures of economic pressure or forcing against other states, and they reaffirm the importance of the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states”, the document says. Moreover, the CIS foreign ministers condemned “any interference with the aim of organizing the overthrow of legitimate governments, as well as the extraterritorial application of national law by states in violation of international law”. As the document outlines, international obligations concerning the immunities of states, property thereof and officials must be strictly observed, and violation of these obligations is fraught with escalation of tension in interstate relations. According to the ministers, the conscientious compliance with generally recognized principles and rules of international law excludes the practice of double standards or the imposition by states or a group of states of their own will on other countries.
