Chinese agronomists ready to share cotton know-how with Turkmenistan


Leading research institutes of the Chinese province of Shandong have expressed their readiness to establish agrarian cooperation and exchange agricultural practices with the countries of Central Asia.
The eastern region of China intends to replenish the diversity of cotton in the Central Asian countries with new varieties. The first supplies of new cotton sorts are expected this year. It was announced in an interview with Xinhua News Agency by Zhu Qingjun, deputy head of the international cooperation department of the Shandong Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
The cotton is widely cultivated in Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, he mentioned.
In turn, the regional scientific centers, rich in solid technology asset, can share knowledge-based approaches in agriculture with these countries. It is worth to note that the region is focused also on cultivation of drought-resistant varieties of cotton and hybrids.
Besides cotton, Shandong province, being the largest agricultural producer in China, specializes in growing wheat, potatoes, rice, maize, fruit and berry crops.
