The trees planting campaign, organized by the Nature Conservation Society of Turkmenistan in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), took place within three schools in Ashgabat. Engaged in the implementation of the joint project Sustainable Cities aimed at expanding green areas in Ashgabat and Avaza, public organizations regularly hold such environmental events. The event to plant saplings of maple, ash and fruit trees in the specialized school No. 21 began in the morning. The young trees were delivered to schoolchildren by representatives of public organizations. The fervent boys set to work with enthusiasm. - Our goal is to explain to schoolchildren how important it is not only to preserve nature, but also to maintain it”, says Jamal Durdykova, an employee of the Sustainable Cities project. - Today we have planted saplings in the schoolyard. In 10 years, when the children graduate from school, these trees will grow large and generate twice as much oxygen, which will have effect on the improvement of the ecological situation. Then the employees of the Nature Conservation Society of Turkmenistan made a presentation on the topic of waste collection and separation. The awareness-raising action aroused a keen interest of the children in topical issues of environmental protection and conservation of natural resources. The issues of rational water use, energy saving and transition to renewable resources were discussed. Curious schoolchildren actively asked questions: “Why is plastic harmful?”, “How to contribute to environmental protection?”, etc. It was especially interesting for the guys to hear about solar panels in the Garagum Desert. Then the environmental team went to school No. 53 and the children’s and youth sports school, where tree planting and an awareness-raising presentation also took place. In addition to saplings, posters telling about the correct separation of waste were donated to schools.
