At the International Space Congress in Sydney, NASA Administrator Sean Duffy announced plans to create a settlement on the Moon powered by nuclear energy. According to him, the project is planned for the next ten years and will be a key step in the exploration of extraterrestrial territories.

The lunar village will not be a temporary base but a sustainable living space. Energy will be provided by nuclear reactors, enabling conditions for habitation, food production, and water recycling in an environment where solar energy is insufficient.

Duffy emphasized that the project will not only facilitate permanent life on the Moon but will also serve as a preparatory stage for sending humans to Mars.

Although an official call for volunteers to move to the Moon has not yet been announced, NASA’s statement has sparked global interest. Experts believe that private companies could play an important role in implementing the project, and the arrival of the first civilian residents on the Moon is only a matter of time.

If the plans are realized, by 2035 the Moon will host its first populated settlement, already being referred to as the “Nuclear Village.” It is considered a potential “backup plan” for humanity in light of ecological and climate challenges on Earth.
