Turkmenistan and the Astrakhan Region (Russia) are accelerating the implementation of key joint projects within the North-South Transport Corridor, moving negotiations into the practical phase.

During a meeting between Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Mammetkhan Chakyev and an Astrakhan delegation led by Chairman of the Regional Government Denis Afanasyev, the parties discussed specific steps to intensify bilateral cooperation.

The main focus of the meeting was the transition to the practical implementation of the Turkmen Logistics Center in Astrakhan. The region's vice governor confirmed that the Astrakhan Region has already allocated land for construction and signed the necessary agreements. This moves the multi-year strategic project into the implementation phase, which is critical for strengthening Turkmenistan's transit infrastructure.

Another important area of cooperation was deepening industrial cooperation. The parties agreed on the participation of Astrakhan shipyards in joint projects with the Turkmen shipyard "Balkan".

Turkmenistan is also interested in the targeted training of highly qualified specialists for its shipping and shipbuilding companies at the Caspian Institute of Maritime and River Transport.

As part of developing business and tourism ties, the parties also discussed the possibility of launching a direct flight from Astrakhan to Turkmenbashi.

Turkmenistan confirmed its participation in the Astrakhan International Transport Corridor (ITC) Forum in October. The Turkmen side will send representatives of shipbuilding, shipping, and logistics companies to the forum.

Turkmenistan's interaction with this key Russian region extends beyond trade, focusing on strengthening transit infrastructure, industrial cooperation, and developing national shipbuilding potential.

The visit of the Astrakhan delegation coincided with Turkmenistan's Independence Day celebrations, for which representatives from the region participated. The Astrakhan Regional Government confirmed its intention to make every effort to further strengthen friendly ties with Turkmenistan.
