During the past week (September 20–26), China’s domestic and foreign policy was marked by a number of strategically significant events, including new climate commitments, the stabilization of relations with the U.S., and the launch of an unprecedented transport route.

1. Xi Jinping’s Visit to Xinjiang

President Xi Jinping led a delegation to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. During the visit, he emphasized five strategic roles of the region in national development, including its status as a “golden channel” across the Eurasian continent and as a strategic barrier for national security.

2. Climate Commitments and WTO Status

At the UN General Assembly, China unveiled new landmark climate plans. The country pledged to cut net greenhouse gas emissions by 7–10% from peak levels and to increase wind and solar power capacity to 3,600 gigawatts. China also announced that in future WTO negotiations, it will not seek a special differential treatment status, demonstrating readiness for greater responsibility in global trade.

3. Stabilization of Relations with the U.S.

In Beijing, the first bipartisan U.S. congressional delegation since 2019 visited China. In meetings with Premier Li Qiang and Defense Minister Dong Jun, both sides called for expanding military and diplomatic dialogue to stabilize bilateral relations. The Chinese side urged the U.S. to adhere to the One-China principle and approach the Taiwan issue with caution.

4. Modernization of the Armed Forces

China’s Ministry of Defense confirmed that the commissioning of the third aircraft carrier Fujian is “just around the corner,” following successful tests of takeoffs and landings using electromagnetic catapults. This made China the second country in the world to possess such carrier capabilities, marking a major milestone in the modernization of its navy.

5. Arctic Container Express

China achieved a breakthrough in global logistics by launching the world’s first Arctic container express route from China to Europe. A vessel departing from Ningbo-Zhoushan Port will deliver cargo to the United Kingdom in just 18 days — nearly twice as fast as the traditional route through the Suez Canal — significantly strengthening the stability of global supply chains.
