Iran’s Deputy Oil Minister and CEO of the National Gas Company, Said Tavakkoli, told Trend that Tehran is discussing gas imports with Russia and Turkmenistan.

According to the official, the Iranian side hopes for a successful conclusion of the negotiations. He noted that during the winter period, the country may face a gas deficit of 300 million cubic meters per day, and in some cases, up to 350–400 million cubic meters. In this regard, Iran is implementing several programs to reduce the deficit and improve the efficiency of gas supply management.

Tavakkoli also emphasized that Iran intends to maintain gas export volumes at last year’s level. In particular, supplies to Turkey will continue until 2026, with ongoing negotiations with Ankara on further contract extensions.

Iran ranks second in the world in natural gas reserves — about 34 trillion cubic meters. The country has 22 gas fields, and daily production exceeds 1 billion cubic meters.
